Success Story "Building a Sustainable Future Through Dairy Farming"

Bella Grigoryan and her family were forcibly displaced from Artsakh to Armenia in 2023 and resettled in a village in Tatev community, Syunik region. The family consists of seven members: Bella, her husband Aram, Aram’s elderly parents, and three minor children. Upon arrival, they had no assets and were not included in any other support programs, which made their resettlement and livelihood restoration particularly challenging.

The Jinishian Memorial Foundation was the first organization to offer support to the family. Through the project, co-funded by Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and Saint Sarkis Charity Trust, Bella and her husband received a loan of AMD 1,000,000, which they used to purchase two cows and start a small livestock activity. With the income generated, they were later able to purchase three additional cows, and today their herd has grown to seven cows.

The family earns income by selling fresh milk and dairy products, including yogurt and cheese. They have established a stable customer base and supply milk also to local milk processing factories, ensuring regular sales and cash flow. At the same time, dairy products are consumed by the family members, contributing to their food security and improved nutrition.

This livestock activity, established with project support, now covers the family’s daily needs and provides a reliable source of income. Although the family is currently renting a house, their long-term goal is to purchase a permanent home in the same village and continue expanding their livestock business.

The project support enabled the young couple to build a business from scratch and move toward economic self-reliance. Today, they are steadily developing their enterprise and plan to further increase their herd and production capacity in the future.
